  • Incorporated in 1994, David Archer appointed Managing Director and takes first appointment.

2000

  • Launch first dedicated website.

2001

  • David Hosford appointed a director.

2004

  • PTL create a legal precedent in relation to pension trustee, employer consultation: Pitmans Trustees v the Telecommunications Group plc

2005

  • Andrew Gaspar appointed a director, the first non-lawyer to be appointed to the board.

2006

  • Win the Professional Pensions Trustee of the Year Award
  • 2005/2006 year end results: 8 new appointments
  • First appointment to a scheme entering PPF assessment.

2007

  • Shortlisted for the Pension and Investment Provider Independent Trustee of the Year Award.
  • Our client, the Gascoigne Pension Scheme, is the first wind up fund where every member receives a full annual payment from the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS).

2008

  • Acquire the business of Richard Butcher FPMI. Richard Butcher appointed a director of PTL.
  • 2007/2008 year end results: 17% revenue growth, 8 new appointments.
  • Shortlisted for the Professional Pensions Trustee of the Year Award and the Pension and Investment Provider Independent Trustee of the Year Award.
  • Launch innovative Contract Based Governance Service – the only commercial product available to the market.
  • Launch the Governance Platform.
  • 2008/2009 year end results: 25% revenue growth, 13 new appointments.

2009

  • Shortlisted for the Professional Pensions Trustee of the Year Award and the Pension and Investment Provider Independent Trustee of the Year Award.
  • Opened an office in Leeds, our third office.

2010

  • Acquires the business and staff of SBJ Professional Trustees Ltd. Steve Carrodus appointed a director of PTL.
  • 2009/2010 year end results: 30% revenue growth and 16 new appointments.
  • Shortlisted for the Professional Pensions Trustee of the Year Award and the Pension and Investment Provider Independent Trustee of the Year Award.
  • Richard Butcher appointed Managing Director, the first non-lawyer to hold the post.
  • Devise and help launch the Association of Member Nominated Trustees.
  • Publish “101 Simple Steps to Better Governance: Occupational Pension Schemes made easier”.
  • Launch innovative Group Life Master Trust (and shortly after appointed by UNUM to run their group life master trust).
  • Highly commended in the Engaged Investor Trustee of the Year Award.
  • 2010/2011 year end results: 25% revenue growth, 49 new appointments.

2011

  • Nominated for the Professional Pensions Trustee of the Year Award.
  • Richard Butcher co-opted to the Retirement Policy Council of the National Association of Pension Funds.
  • Win the Pension and Investment Provider Independent Trustee of the year Award.
  • Launch specialist Charity Unit.
  • Leeds office moves to accommodate expansion of the team.
  • Highly commended in the Engaged Investor Trustee of the Year Award for the second year in succession.

2012

  • Richard Butcher named amongst the Pension Insight “50 Most Influential People in Pensions”.
  • 2011/2012 year end results: 12% revenue growth, 60 new appointments.
  • Finalist for the Professional Pensions Trustee of the Year Award, the Pension and Investment Provider Independent Trustee of the Year Award.
  • Richard Butcher elected to the Council of the Pensions Management Institute.
  • The Macmillan Cancer Support Pension Scheme, one of our clients, wins the Portfolio Institutional Award for Best Pension Scheme Under £1bn. Client Director Melanie Cusack collects the award.
  • Founding member and Chair of the Master Trust Association.
  • Richard Butcher elected to the Retirement Policy Council of the National Association of Pension Funds.
  • Co-launch Pensions Trinity, along with Evercore Asset Management and Quattro Pensions: an innovative fixed service and fee package for smaller DB pension schemes.

2013

2017

  • Richard Butcher, Managing Director of PTL, named as one of the 50 most influential people in pensions by Pensions Insight
  • March 2017: Richard Butcher elected as Chair of the Pension and Lifetime Savings Association (the PLSA) with effect from October 2017 – the first professional trustee to be elected to this position.
